TEHRAN An American Jewish Congressman has apologized for making an insulting statement about Muslims and the Holy Prophet (S).

In a letter to the Council of U.S.-Islam Relations, the Jewish Congressman Tom Lentus apologized for leveling charges of betrayal against the Holy Prophet (S) with regard to the Hudaibieh Pact reached between him and the polytheists.

He stressed that he did not mean to insult the Muslims and the Prophet and felt regret if he had offended anyone.

Lentus further said that he respected Islam as one of the greatest religions and cultures, adding that it was not his responsibility to pass a historical judgement on what had occurred between A.D. 610 and 630.
